Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging

We consider our diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiative fundamental to our mission.

EACMSI is dedicated to preparing students for their future as architects of societies where all are responsible for the common good. Our commitment to recognizing and appreciating human similarities while valuing human differences is crucial for creating a positive and inclusive learning community.

By co-creating a community where differences are celebrated, and belonging is the goal, EACMSI is helping foster unity and respect among students from diverse backgrounds. We strive for vibrant co-existence utilizing skillful engagement across differences, which can help our students develop the necessary skills to navigate differences in an increasingly global society.

At EACMSI, we contextualize differences through the curriculum and day-to-day experiences, which can help students develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of diversity. By affirming each individual’s identity, we are helping to ensure that all students feel seen, heard, and valued, and can fully participate in every experience.

Our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging is fundamental to EACMSI’s mission of preparing students for a future where all are responsible for the common good.

Montessori education has a strong emphasis on equity and inclusion.

The Montessori approach recognizes and values the diversity of each child’s cultural background, abilities, and experiences. Here are some ways EACMSI promotes equity and inclusion:

1. Belonging to a community: is a central theme that helps students develop a sense of identity, social responsibility, and empathy towards others.

2. Inclusive curriculum: The Montessori curriculum is designed to be inclusive and culturally responsive. The materials used in the classroom represent a diverse range of cultures, languages, and experiences. This helps students to develop an appreciation for diversity and to see themselves and others in the learning materials.

3. Individualized learning: The Montessori approach recognizes that every child learns differently and at their own pace. The individualized approach to learning ensures that each child has the opportunity to succeed and reach their full potential.

4. Mixed-age classrooms: EACMSI classrooms are mixed-age. This helps to promote empathy, understanding, and leadership skills.

5. Peace education: EACMSI emphasizes the importance of peace education and conflict resolution. students learn to respect and understand each other’s differences and to resolve conflicts peacefully.

6. Teacher training: EACMSI teachers are trained to be culturally responsive and to create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment. They are equipped with the skills and knowledge to recognize and address bias, discrimination, and prejudice issues.

Diversity Resources

At EACMSI, we recognize the need for fundamental changes in order to transition successfully from a predominantly white institution to one in which each individual – regardless of identity – can thrive.
